Art in the classroom

The boys were great and keen at my art lesson this morning. #artlesson #teaching #tonal #monotone #blockingin #primaryschool @thouartmum #lion #mouse #artgames #arthasnorules

It was so great to finally get into the classroom a couple of weeks ago and give the boys an art experience that hopefully gave them a taste for art.
I tried to show them how easy it can be to create some art just by working tonally and concentrating on shape, blocking in and not thinking I am drawing a Lion, but rather that I am drawing a shape that looks like this or that.  Making large loose shapes let the boys feel emotion in their art too which I could see by their their eagerness to show me their work.
All of the art was wonderful and I even spotted some budding artists in the making.

setting up still lifes

Not the best photo but I love the challenge in setting up a still life. This was a tonal work sitting pots on an old table with original wiring running along the wall in a very old house.  The Grace (Mitchell) poster is the original owner of this house and it holds such a special place in the local Eltham community.

Montsalvat Eltham – gouache

A perfect morning with artist friends sketching outdoors in the Diamond Valley at the Montsalvat artist colony. The original buildings are mudbrick and this place still has working artists living in these studio dwellings. This place is reminiscent of an old French provincial village. We exhibit here annually and our works get hung/placed within these charming buildings for all to see and ponder. Make a visit if you are in the Diamond Valley Victoria.
