A quiet moment of connection between a young girl and a horse, surrounded by the softened colours and light of the Australian landscape.
Created in soft pastel, A Quiet Understanding brings together muted blue-greens, lilacs, warm ochres and touches of glowing light. The small gesture between girl and horse is at the heart of the work; an exchange of trust, curiosity and affection.
My work often explores childhood, memory and our connection with animals and place. Here, edges soften and details dissolve into the surrounding landscape, giving the painting the feeling of a memory recalled rather than a moment precisely recorded.
